Summer 2010

NECDT - The North East Circus Development Trust

Let's Circus have been integral in establishing and launching the North East Circus Development Trust - a registered charity with a strong board of individuals dedicated to bringing positive opportunities of circus to the North East of England including a permanent circus building project. More information can be found on the Five Ring Circus website

Five Ring Circus

Five youth circuses across five local authority areas in the North East. The project has now gone live and Summer 2010 will see events taking place in North Tyneside, Stockton, Newcastle, South Tyneside and Durham local authority areas. If you're a young person in one of these areas then get in touch. Check out all of the details on www.fiveringcircus.net

Summer Events

Unlike ever before, we've got the busiest summer we could hope for. We'll be taking more circus to more people in a greater number of places. We've got some fantastic international acts involved with our projects this year, with artists from Kenya, China, Australia, Japan, Tanzania, Italy and more. Whilst we upgrade this website to handle all of these calendar dates, please visit the Five Ring Circus What's On page.

Cultural Olympiad Project - we got it!

The result we've been hoping for after 12 months of planning and discussions, we're running an Olympics project! Starting in 2010, NECDT and Let's Circus shall be developing 'Tyneside's Five Ring Circus' - five local youth circuses that shall develop over the three year period with the aims of youth-lead excellence and eventual self-sustainability. Five Ring Circus is part of the Generation 2012/Legacy Trust project and will ensure that circus is part of the cultural offer available to young people and communities in the North East after the Olympics and Cultural Olympiad.

Circonnection Launch

Finally we can launch our first European Partnership project 'Circonnection'. Twenty projects across Europe that will provide opportunities of creative and professional development for circus professionals. The partnership will bring several international workshops to Newcastle and will also provide opportunities of travel and professional development for Let's Circus' team of artists. Visit www.circonnection.com for details and get in touch if you'd like to be involved.

Circadium

Wow, what an event! 2 days of Big Top Circus Heaven. Thanks to the thousands of people who came into the tent and got involved with the workshops and watched our shows and particularly to all those who helped make the event such a success through their time, energy and experience. We believe this was the biggest single participatory circus event ever held on Tyneside and were lost for words by its success.

Here's the event in numbers: 1 Big Top, 2 days, 6 local circus clubs, a bunch of extreme unicyclists, 16 circus disciplines taught, 22 professional teachers, 36 workshops each day, 1432 toys borrowed, 2416 registered participants, zero time wasted in having a good time!

Possible new facility for Tyneside?

A Permanent Circus Facility for Tyneside?

We are coming the end of the first stage of our feasibility study into converting an inner-city church into a dedicated circus training space. We've generated lots of support for the project and are working hard at getting the conversion off the ground. We are looking for support from individuals and business, both financial and otherwise. If you or someone you know would like to support circus in the North East of England, please get in touch. Our next stage is to raise £1.5million in capital!

Maasai meets the Balloonatic!

Our Circus Safari to Kenya

Armed with a playful approach, a box of circus toys and a wish to exchange circus and cultures, Let's... Circus delivered training to local acrobats and dancers as part of a teacher training program. Our sister-circus 'Sarakasi' is now working to place these individuals into projects within Nairobi, many of which are in the slum areas. We also traveled to the Maasai community at Olasiti in Amboseli with a crew of acrobats from Nairobi. What a huge privilege it was to perform under the slopes of the awesome Mt. Kilimanjaro to such wonderful people with whom we are now good friends. We are working on sharing our stories with the world via video documentaries that will be released soon.
